THINGS TO ?DO? IN TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES

DOWNTOWN – There are gift shops, restaurants, a great museum, two used bookstores, and seven art galleries all within walking distance of Riverbend. Also downtown are massage therapists, a health food store, and several resale boutiques.  A fisherman’s pond and city park with play equipment are only one block away.
HIKING – Bike and hiking trails abound in the area, including a four-hour hike to the top of Turtleback Mountain. Rock climbing, horseback riding, and fishing guides are available.
FISHING – We are right on the Trout stocked Rio Grande, and within 5 miles of Caballo State Park and Elephant Butte Lake. This is a fisherman's paradise!
COMMUNITY EVENTS – Plenty for such a small town, including our annual Fiesta, Geronimo Peace Gathering, Fiddlers Contest, Balloon Regatta, and area Apple and Chile Festivals. Plus, bass fishing, karate, and golf tournaments, and many more.

THINGS TO “SEE” IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA

Our beautiful ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE (40,000 surface acres) and Dam Site are a sight to see. An exact replica of the VIETNAM MEMORIAL WALL in Washington, DC toured the U.S. for 3 years before making its final home in T or C.  Small and colorful “GHOST” towns (Kingston, Hillsboro, Lake Valley, Cuchillo, Winston & Chloride) are loaded with history. The entrance to the GILA NATIONAL FOREST is only 30 miles away, and lots of beautiful blue skies and desert vistas surround us. Wait till you see a New Mexico sunset!!

AREA ATTRACTIONS WITHIN A TWO - HOUR DRIVE

BOSQUE DEL APACHE Wildlife Refuge is 3/4 hour north off I-25 (San Marcial exit).
FORT CRAIG (Apache fort) is 45 minutes north off I-25 (San Marcial exit).
WHITE SANDS NATIONAL MONUMENT is 2 hours southeast on US 70.
VERY LARGE ARRAY (as seen in movie “Contact”) is 2 hours northwest on US 60.
PUERTO PALOMAS, a Mexican border town 1/2 hour south of I-10.

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS WITHIN A DAY’S DRIVE

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK is 8 hours northwest using a shortcut.
KARTCHNER CAVERNS is 4 hours southeast off I-10 near Benson, AZ.
GILA CLIFF DWELLINGS is 3 hours southwest off US 152.
CARLSBAD CAVERNS is 6 hours west over the mountains off US 70.
